“Drawing a comparison between this edition of election for the City and Villages Councils with the last 4 editions, a threefold increase in the number of people wishing to enter the contest is visible,” said Ali Asghar Ahmadi, the Head of Election Committee of Iranian Interior Ministry on Thursday.
The official recounted that 58,937 persons had registered in local governments across the country by Wednesday, 15,562 of them hopeful for city councils and 43,375 of them to compete in their villages.
Ahmadi also announced that 55,717 of the registered hopefuls are men and 3,220 of them are women.
The head of the Election Committee of Iranian Interior Ministry predicted that more people show up at local governments on the last two days of the grace, Saturday and Sunday, to register.
